Itinerary: Bucharest – Pitești – Curtea de Argeș – Cetatea Poenari – Bucharest (about 400 km)
Sights visited:
1) The Pitesti Prison Memorial, which is a memorial space open to the public in 2014, is located in the former political prison in Pitesti (depending on the group and period, we can replace one of the following sights: the Bascovele Monastery of Serban Cantacuzino, in the time of prince Constantin Brancoveanu or the Golesti Museum)
2) Curtea de Arges Monastery founded by Manole at the request of Prince Neagoe Basarab and finished by his son-in-law, Radu of Afumati. During King Carol I the cathedral is transformed into a necropolis for the royal family of Romania. Here also the relics of St. Philofteia are found.
3) The Poenari Fortress- situated on a mountain peak that dominates the Arges Gorges, a few kilometers from the dam and Vidraru Lake. The legend says that Vlad Tepes being pursued by the Turks, escaped refuge in this fortress after he hiked the horses with the reverse horse in the back, thus confusing the pursuers. To climb the fortress, climb 1480 steps, on a concrete ladder equipped with balustrade.
