7 Days in Romania with Bucovina



1st day  Airport - Bucharest

           Meeting of the group at the agreed place and departure for the airport in time for the boarding operations for the flight to Romania.

Free lunch along the journey. Arrival in Bucharest and meeting with the English speaking companion who will follow you for the entire trip. Depending on the time of arrival, departure by coach for a short panoramic tour of the Romanian capital, admiring its wide avenues, the glorious buildings in "Bell'Époque" style, the Arc de Triomphe, the Romanian Athenaeum, the Revolution Square and the University Square.

Dinner in a typical restaurant and overnight at the Hotel Ambassador / Capitol or similar 4 *, in Bucharest.


2nd day

Bucharest - Curtea de Arges - Sibiu - Sibiel

          Breakfast at hotel. Departure for Sibiu, European Capital of Culture in 2007, crossing the beauty of the river Olt. Stop to visit the fourteenth century monastery Cozia, considered a masterpiece of the Wallach architecture.

Arrival in Sibiu, visit of the historical center of the European capital, known at the time for its fortification system considered the largest in Transylvania with more than 7 km of walls of which today important vestiges are preserved. You can admire the Piazza Grande with the peculiarity of the city the roofs with "the eyes that follow you", the Little Square with the the Bridge of Lies and the imposing evangelical church in Gothic style of the XIV century (only external - closed for restoration).

Typical dinner in the region, in Sibiel, from the peasants, in the middle of the Romanian traditions. Overnight at Top Farmhouses in Sibiel with typical dinner and popular evening.



3rd day

Sibiu - Medias - Targu Mures - Bistrita

      After breakfast at the hotel, leave for Bistrita. Stop in Medias, famous medieval city, then road to get to Bistrita. Short panoramic tour of the town of Targu Mures, renowned for its squares surrounded by beautiful buildings from the Secession era, including the most majestic: the Prefecture and the Palace of Culture. Arrival in Bistrita, tour of the city of Bistrita. Dinner and overnight at the 4 * Ozana hotel or similar, central.


4th day

Bistrita - Monasteries of Bucovina - Piatra Neamt

    Breakfast at hotel. Departure for Bucovina, the region of Moldavia whose name dates back to 1774 and means "country covered by beech forests". Famous for its beautiful landscapes, Bucovina is even more known for its frescoed monasteries built in the 15th-16th centuries under the Moldavian princes Stephen the Great and his son Petru Rares. Visit of the Sucevita monastery (1582-84), renowned for the important fresco "The Scale of Virtues" and for its imposing city walls. Visit of the Moldovita monastery, dated 1532, surrounded by fortifications and externally frescoed. The external frescoes enhance the Moldavian imprint to obtain the maximum realism in the scenes of everyday life, humanizing the characters. Lunch at the restaurant / on the way. Visit of the Voronet monastery of 1488, named the Sistine Chapel of Eastern Europe and considered the jewel of Bucovina for the famous cycle of external frescoes that decorate the church, the most famous of which is "The Last Judgment".

At the end of the visits I arrive in Piatra Neamt, a city that for its beauty and for the position it occupies in the distracted Neamt is also called "Perla Moldovei" (the pearl of Moldavia). Dinner and overnight at the Central Plaza 4 * hotel / similar.


5th day

Piatra Neamt - Gorges of Bicaz - Red Lake - Sighisoara

    Breakfast at hotel. Passage of the Carpati chain, crossing the Bicaz Gorges, the most famous canon of the country, 10 km long, formed by 300-400 m high Mesozoic limestone rocks, passing beside the Red Lake, a lake originated from the natural barrier for the unevenness of a mount, in 1837; from the water emerge the petrified trunks of the pines.

In the afternoon arrival Sighisoara, birthplace of the famous Vlad the Impaler, known to all as Count Dracula. Guided tour of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval citadel of Romania; the city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Most of it dates back to the 14th century, when the construction was hastily extended and strengthened after the Tatar destruction in 1241.

Nine of the fourteen original towers are preserved: the tower of the blacksmiths, the shoemakers' tower, the butchers' tower, the tailors' tower, the pellai tower, the ramai tower, etc. The most beautiful and well-known monument of the city is the Clock Tower which was built in the 13th-14th centuries and until 1556 was the seat of the Council. 6th day

Sighisoara –Brasov - Bran - Sinaia - Bucharest

      After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Brasov and visit of one of the most charming medieval towns in Romania, during which you can admire the Schei district with the Sfantul Nicolae church, the first Romanian school (XV century), the Biserica Neagrã (Black Church), the largest Gothic church in Romania and the ancient fortifications of the city with guild bastions. Lunch in a restaurant / on the fly.

In the afternoon visit of the Bran Castle, known as Dracula's Castle, one of the most picturesque in Romania, built in the 13th century by the Teutonic knight Dietrich and restored in later periods. Beginning in 1920, Bran Castle became the residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Romania. Queen Mary of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha stayed there for a long time, massively renovating the interiors according to the Romanian “art and craft” taste. In 1948, when the Romanian royal family was driven out by the communist occupation forces, the castle was occupied.

In the afternoon arrival in Sinaia, called "the Pearl of the Carpathians", the most famous mountain resort in Romania. Visit to Peles Castle, built in the late nineteenth century in the neo-Gothic style typical of Bavarian castles. The interior of Peles Castle includes 160 rooms, arranged and furnished in all possible shapes, with a clear predominance of wood carving. Continuation to Bucharest. Overnight stay and dinner in a hotel in Bucharest at the Hotel Ambasador 4 * / Capitol or similar



7th Day:

Bucharest - Airport

       Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, depending on the time of departure, possibility to visit the Village Museum, located in the lush Herastrau Park, one of the largest outdoor parks in Europe. Restored country houses, large barns and functioning water mills fill the narrow lanes. The museum illustrates how Romania was a few hundred years ago. Free lunch during the day. Transfer to the airport in time for boarding operations.
