Constanța- the town of the coastal Black Sea 
Constanta is one of the oldest certified cities on the Romanian territory. The first documentary attestation dates from 657 BC. when on the site of the present peninsula (and even under the waters of today, near the Casino) a Greek colony called Tomis was formed. The town was conquered by the Romans in 71 BC. and renamed Constantiana after the sister of Emperor Constantine the Great. During the thirteenth century the Great Sea (as it was then called the Black Sea) was dominated by the Italian merchants from Genoa who helped to develop the city. Subsequently, Constanta suffered a decline under Ottoman rule, becoming a simple village inhabited by Greek fishermen and breeding Tatar horses and sheep.
The locality became a city after the construction of the Cernavoda-Constanța railway and the port, in 1865, for the export of Romanian grain. After the War of Independence (1877-1878), when Dobrogea became part of Romania, Constanța, the main port of the state, has grown continuously, holding this role until today.

From the Modern beach, you reach the Tomis Tourist Port very quickly, where many luxury boats and yachts are resting. The water's edge is adorned with terraces and restaurants with a specific fishery, whose wonderful smell is marvelously combined with the smell of the Black Sea.
Cliff Casino Constanta
Stay close and walk a little on the cliff that leads to an old vestige of the city of Constanța: The casino that watches over the sea, wrapped in silence and history. Viewed from a distance, the building imposes today a special respect and elegance, a historical charm that deserves to be surprised in as many photos and selfies.
Genoese lighthouse
The Constanta cliff is also proud of this old historical landmark, which guided thousands of sailors with its white light, which used to rise more than 21 meters above the sea and could be seen from about 5 km wide.
Constanta Aquarium
Located in front of the Casino, the Constanta Aquarium gathers together amazing exhibitions of aquatic flora and fauna or on topics related to biology, marine fishing and aquatic ecology. You can visit its 3 sections: Marina, Dulcicola and Exotic Fish. The Marine Section is home to species of invertebrates and fish found in the Black Sea, as well as living species that migrate from the Mediterranean. As the name suggests, the Dulcicola section brings together species of invertebrates and freshwater fish, found in lakes and ponds on the Romanian coast or in the waters of the Danube Delta. But the one that will delight you most is the Exotic Fish section, where you will be able to admire species of fish belonging to various freshwater ecosystems from tropical and subtropical areas.

The Great Mosque of Constanta

Dolphinarium
The dolphinarium in Constanța is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city, both in the summer season and in the extra season. Next to the Planetarium, the Astronomical Observatory and the Micro-reservation, the Dolphinarium is part of the interesting Museum of Natural Sciences Constanta located at the intersection of Mamaia Boulevard with Soveja Street. The dolphinarium was inaugurated on June 1, 1972, representing at that time the first such museum from Romania and south-east Europe. Currently, the Dolphinarium remains the only place in our country where you can relax watching an extraordinary show whose protagonists are dolphins, sea lions and penguins. The stars of the Constanta Dolphinarium are Peipei, Chen Cheng and Ni-Ni (one male and two females), three dolphins brought in 2010 from China.
Constanta is, first of all, a city rich in history and at least interesting monuments, so the next time you reach the sea, book a couple of hours and visit the city on the sea.
