5 Days Tour of Wallachia and Transylvania with the Transfăgărășan Alpine Road, Cluj and Corvin Castle

Itinerary:

Day 1. Arrival at Otopeni airport and departure to - Sinaia - Bran - Brasov. Accommodation Coroana Brasovului / Hotel Wagner 3*

We start the trip on Valea Prahovei region (the Prahova Valley) and Transylvania to visit Peles Castle, Bran Castle (famous as Dracula’s Castle from a commercial point of view), the Sinaia Monastery, the city of Brasov. The Sinaia monastery has existed since the end of the 17th century and was built by Mihail Cantacuzino in memory of a pilgrimage to Mount Sinai in Egypt. Its beauty and grandeur in the soul of the Carpathian mountains show the Byzantine culture and spirit. Then we arrive at the famous Peleș Castle, the summer residence of King Charles I. From the outdoor garden, the castle is seen as a mixture of architectural styles, a testament to the vast artistic culture and good taste of Charles I and the architects. Inside the castle, everything you see is a part of the royal family treasure. In the afternoon, we arrive at the Bran Castle, an ancient medieval fortress built on the border between Wallachia and Transylvania. The castle is famous thanks to the military adventure of Vlad Tepeș (Vlad the Impaler), but also to Queen Maria, niece of Queen Victoria, who decorated the rooms according to her preferences. The last stop of the day comes with a visit to the historical center of Brasov, where the Council Square, the Black Church, the Scheii Brasovului Church, the White Tower, the Black Tower, the Catherine’s gate are located.

Day 2. Brasov - Viscri - Sighișoara - Turda Salt Mine - Cluj Napoca.  Accommodation Hotel Capitolina 3*

After taking the breakfast, we go to Viscri and then to Sighisoara, "Pearl of Transylvania", the best preserved fortress in Romania, included in the UNESCO heritage. Sighisoara is reminiscent of the city of San Gimignano in Italy. You can see the Clock Tower, the Church from the hill, the birthhouse of Vlad the Impaler (Tepes). Then we go to Cluj Napoca, the largest city in Transylvania.

Day 3. Cluj Napoca - Alba Iulia - Corvin Castle - Sibiu - Sibiel. Accommodation Casa Ana Ciortea 3*

In this day we visit the medieval city of Alba Iulia, where the unification of the Romanian principalities was made in 1918, then we arrive at Corvin castle, an important military center of the time. In the evening we visit Sibiu, a city that remembers the great Saxon or German cities. Sibiu was the European cultural capital in 2007. We visit The Big Tower, the Bridge of Lies, the Bruckental Palace, the Huet Square, etc. In the evening we arrive in the beautiful mountain town, Sibiel, famous for its landscapes, clean air and for the Museum of icons on glass, a Transylvanian treasure.

Day 4. Sibiel - Transfăgărășan - Poenari Fortress - Bucharest. Accommodation Hotel Capitol / Ambasador 4*

This day we cross the Trasnsfagarasan alpine road, the highest in Europe (over 2000 m), which connects Trasylvania with Wallachia. We can see the Balea Lake, beautiful landscapes, sheeps and shepherds. Then, we continue the trip visiting the Poenari Fortress, an important defense center built by Vlad Tepes (impaler) and in the evening we travel to Bucharest, do a panoramic tour and arrive at the hotel.

Day 5: Free time, transfer to the airport according to the flight

After taking the breakfast at the hotel, we have free time for shopping or to visit the Village Museum, located in Herastrau Park, one of the largest parks in Europe. Alternatively, you can enjoy a visit to the Therme.
